    • On the Firing Line- My 500 Days at Apple by Gil Amelio Amelio holds nothing back, including details of his dealings with Gates and Jobs. Is Steve Jobs' current success due to Amelio? It would seem so. Hardcover 
    • Running to the Mountain by Jon Katz A journey of faith and change that should be of interest to all who are facing burnout or a mid-life crisis. Katz is a contributor to Slashdot. Hardcover 
    • The Plot to Get Bill Gates by Gary Rivlin An irreverent investigation of the world's richest man and the people who hate him. Everyone's dirty linen is exposed in this very readable book. Hardcover 
    • Weaving the Web by Tim Berners-Lee Learn how the father of the web, Berners-Lee, and his colleagues at CERN created the World Wide Web. Hardcover 
    Columnists
    • Amis, Rod Rod's daily editorial in the IT Manager's Journal often has thought provoking themes. Worth your time to check each day. 
    • Berst, Jesse Love him or hate him, Jesse's daily Anchordesk feature is a must read. His take on coming trends and his unwinding of vendor's spin-control just might save your job or your company. 
    • Cringley, InfoWorld This column has been written by several people. The humor attempted by the current writer is poor and forced, but the rumors and industry tidbits may be of interest. 
    • Cringley, Robert X. The "real" Cringley offers excellent industry analysis from his weekly "The Pulpit." The web design - in a newsletter format - for the column is outstanding too. 
    • Dvorak, John Dvorak's columns in PC Magazine have been a source of good information for a long time. His Inside Track columns are also available online 
    • Katt, Spencer F. The wild kitty pundit that purrsues industry leads in PC Week takes a little getting used to. If you like your rumors served with humor (and a bit of cat nip), Katt's your guy. 
    • Metcalfe, Bob Metcalfe, who invented Ethernet and founded 3Com, often, but not always, writes about communications issues. His columns come backed with solid logic to support his ideas. 
    • Nielsen, Jacob Nielsen is a web site useability guru. His columns appear every other week. If you are involved with internet or intranet web site design, be sure to read his archived columns too. 
    • Tognazzini, Tog Tog's AskTog site is home for good web useability information. Our biggest complaint is that the site is only updated on the first of each month.

    • Competition Keeps Linux Lean CNN looks at the competition within the Open Source community that keeps Linux lean and growing, while Microsoft's code bloats and stagnates. 
    • Design Differences Web design guru, Jacob Nielsen, looks at the differences between print design and web design. His conclusion? Relish the difference. 
    • Dirty Little Secrets In Intelligent Enterprise John Trustman and Susan Meshako say that IT's dirty little secret is that we don't know how to do business requirements anymore. Guilty as charged?

    • Help-Site Good starting point for seeking help. Large searchable collection of help desk support documents. 
    • HelpAnswers Query search on keywords or use natural language. Has a dictionary search and also an address book search. 
    • HP's Customer Care Center The starting point for finding drivers and troubleshooting guides for HP's complete line of computers and peripherals. 
    • IBM's Online Support This is the entry point for finding on-line help for your IBM problems - for either hardware or software. 
    • The TechNet Mole The Mole solves sticky technical problems with help from the techies deep within Microsoft. 
    • Whatis.com Need the definition of an acronymn or computer term? Look it up fast on this site.

    • America's Job Bank America’s Job Bank is a partnership between the US Department of Labor and the state operated public Employment Service. 
    • AmericanJobs.com Site originated in 1994. Searchable database covering all aspects of the IT field. 
    • BrainBuzz.com One of the newer job search sites. Offers Dowden & Co. salary surveys. 
    • Dice.com Job search web site for computer professionals, with thousands of high tech permanent, contract, and consulting jobs listed. 
    • Elance.com A site which lists businesses RFPs for freelance tasks and allows freelancers to bid for the projects. 
    • Guru.com Site specializes in listing of and for freelancers and consultants. 
    • Hi-Tech Club Specializes in jobs for software professionals. Has a nice relocation cost calculator on site. 
    • HotJobs.com Well known and heavily advertised internet job search site 
    • Infoworks The computer job center caters to IT jobs and other specialties. 
    • Monster.com One of the first and largest of the internet search sites.

    • Digital Storytelling This San Jose Mercury feature examines digital storytelling using the net and mult-media. It's not all fun; corporations are also using the techniques to tell their stories 
    • Email Hoax Bites TV News Tucson's KOLD TV station led their 10 p.m. news with a item about a "hacker group" conspiring to "create problems in your personal life." Their news source was a hoax email chain letter. 
    • Real Programmers "Real Programmers Don't use PASCAL" is Ed Post's classic from 1982. (Yes, Virginia, there were computers and programmers back then.) 
    • Silicon Follies A Salon fiction serial set in (where else?) Silicon Valley. This is the first chapter. New chapters added twice weekly. Warning: May become addictive. 
    • World's Smallest Server Let the world's smallest server send you a web page with its picture, specifications and how-to-build instructions. It's about the size of a small wooden matchbox. 
    • Woz Comments on Pirates TV Movie Apple's founding engineer, Steve Wozniak, has some interesting things to say about Steve Jobs and the TV movie Pirates of Silicon Valley.

    • Business 2.0 Excellent new magazine covering the internet business. Ideas can be used on intranets as well. 
    • CIO Aimed at higher level management in the MIS arena. Good special issue on Y2K is available online 
    • Computerworld The granddaddy of the computer industry publications. Has lost its luster. 
    • Fast Company Outstanding publication for the "people" side of business. Great idea generator for culture, working environment, hire/fire, motivational issues. Full archives of back issues 
    • InformationWeek Features in-depth reporting on all MIS-related areas. We love the "Secret CIO" column. 
    • InfoWorld Good large format weekly for MIS issues. Home for columnist Bob Metcalfe and InfoWorld's incarnation of Robert X. Cringley. 
    • Intelligent Enterprise The subhead for this magazine says: "For managers of business-critical applications and data." They do a good job of targeting for that audience. 
    • PC Magazine Consumer, but technical, PC publication. Good product reviews. Home for columnists John Dvorak and Jim Seymour. 
    • PC Week The best resource for corporate PC information. 
    • Sm@rt Reseller Covers the PC reseller marketplace. Often has information that can affect your purchasing decisions.
